Friends of Ferals in Willow Springs is marking a major milestone this October: four years of serving local communities through targeted spay and neuter efforts. Since launching in 2022, the organization reports more than 2,000 cats have been helped through its programs. According to the group, 1,731 community cats have been spayed or neutered and safely returned, while 407 cats were transferred to licensed rescue partners when indoor placement was the best option.
Leaders say preventing reproduction has made a dramatic impact, estimating that altered cats represent over 111,000 fewer kittens entering the community in a single year. They emphasize that area‑focused spay/neuter improves public health, reduces roaming and conflict, and eases pressure on local rescues.
So far in 2026, Friends of Ferals has cared for 659 cats and transferred 185 more, with a goal of reaching 800 by year’s end. The group says it needs to raise $5,640—about $40 per cat—to finish the year strong.
