Looters and Thieves Pose As Volunteers To Steal From Friday Night Storm Victims In Sharp County

Sharp County, AR — Towns across Sharp County, including Ash Flat, Cave City, and Highland, were struck by two separate tornadoes on the night of Friday, March 14. The storms left widespread destruction, with homes and businesses sustaining severe damage — including large holes in walls and rooftops. In the aftermath, some properties have been left vulnerable to theft.

Sharp County Sheriff Shane Russell reported receiving multiple calls about suspected looters going through storm-damaged properties as of Tuesday, March 18. While no arrests have been made yet, Russell warned that anyone caught stealing from storm victims will face arrest.

According to Sheriff Russell, some looters have been posing as volunteers to gain access to homes and then steal personal belongings. Others target homes when they know no one is present.

“Anytime anybody sees anything that could possibly be somebody stealing, call 911 and we’ll take it from there,” Russell said.

Residents are advised to remain vigilant and, if in doubt, contact local law enforcement to verify the legitimacy of volunteers working in the area.

Anyone in Sharp County who has experienced structural damage to their home or business is encouraged to contact the Sharp County Assessor’s Office at 870-994-7327.
