16th prisoner death at South Central Correctional Center announced

Licking, MO. – The 16th inmate death for 2023 at the South Central Correctional Center in Licking, Missouri was announced on Tuesday. 

On Friday, Dec. 15, 2023, at 10:36 a.m., 30-year-old offender Michael Hudson was pronounced deceased. Hudson, not to be confused with another inmate of the same name who died at age 46 in the prison in August, was serving a 25-year sentence for first-degree assault and armed criminal action from Jackson County.

Hudson was found guilty by jury for shooting a man in the head as the victim was sitting in his car behind Waldo Pizza in Kansas City. The victim had been performing as a magician at the restaurant that night according to reports by Fox4KC, and has since recovered from the injury.

Hudson was placed in the Missouri Department of Corrections on June 26, 2012.

Authorities will be conducting an autopsy to determine his cause of death.
