A 31‑year‑old swimmer from Advance, Missouri, was seriously injured Thursday afternoon on the Black River, two miles south of Lesterville, after being struck by a passing watercraft that fled the scene.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the victim had gone underwater when an unidentified vessel traveling southbound struck him. The operator, described only as an adult, did not stop and left the area.

The injured man was airlifted by Air Evac to SSM Health Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis for treatment.
