A rural Mountain Home man has been arrested and jailed on several charges related to the theft of brass vases from military gravestone markers at the Galatia Cemetery on Highway 5 South near Norfork
On September 7, 2026, the Sheriff’s Office took a complaint report indicating that several vases were missing from headstones at the Galatia Cemetery. These were brass vases were valued at an estimated $10,000.
On September 8th, the Sheriff’s Office contacted a local recycling center to inquire if any of the vases had been taken there for scrap value. An employee advised that they had indeed received brass vases matching the description. Records from the recycling center indicated that DAVID SUTTERFIELD, JR. was the person who had brought the vases to the recycling center. He was paid $130 for the scrap value. The vases had been cut up before being taken to the center.
DAVID SUTTERFIELD, JR., 50 years old of rural Mountain Home, was arrested and booked into the detention center on charges of:
Desecration of Burial Grounds or Burial Furniture – Felony
Defacing or Damaging Public Building or Object of Public Respect – Felony
Theft by Receiving – Felony
Criminal Mischief in the First Degree – Felony
Criminal Trespass – Misdemeanor
Habitual Offender – Penalty Enhancement.
DAVID SUTTERFIELD, JR. is being held in custody in lieu of $15,000 bond, and he will appear before the Circuit Court to answer on October 12th. Records indicate that SUTTERFIELD has been booked into the Baxter County Detention Center at least 13 times since 2016 on a variety of felony and misdemeanor charges.
