Ava man sentenced for drug, firearm possession

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — An Ava man was sentenced in federal court last week for illegally possessing methamphetamine and a firearm.

34-year-old Rhett Scofield was sentenced on Friday, October 18 to 15 years in federal prison without parole. Scofield pleaded guilty to possessing methamphetamine to distribute and to possessing a firearm in furtherance of a drug-trafficking crime in May 2019.

Officers with the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at Scofield’s residence on July 12, 2017, where they found methamphetamine in a backpack in Scofield’s bedroom. Inside a bedroom safe was another 72 grams of methamphetamine and a pistol on a dresser.
