The Harlin Museum of West Plains is pleased to announce its Semiquincentennial Juried Art Show and invites artists to begin preparing their entries for this special exhibition celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
This juried exhibition is open to original two-dimensional artwork. Eligible media include paintings, drawings, pastels, watercolor, acrylic, oil, colored pencil, ink, mixed media, printmaking, fiber art, and similar wall-hung artwork.
Open to artists of all experience levels, the exhibition invites creative interpretations of America’s heritage, landscapes, people, and symbols. Whether inspired by breathtaking scenery, historic landmarks, patriotic icons, or the individuals who have shaped our nation, artists are encouraged to share their vision as the country commemorates this historic milestone. As a juried exhibition, artwork will be evaluated by an independent judge for inclusion in the exhibition and for awards.
Artwork may be entered in one of three categories:
- U.S. Symbols and Icons
- Landscapes of America
- Portraits of America
Artwork will be accepted at the Harlin Museum August 26–30, with the exhibition on display September 3–26.
Cash awards will be presented in each category. First-, Second-, and Third-Place awards will be presented in U.S. Symbols and Icons, Landscapes of America, and Portraits of America, in addition to a $500 Best of Show award. Ribbons will also be awarded for People’s Choice and Honorable Mention.
Entry fees are $25 for the first entry, $20 for the second, $15 for the third, $10 for the fourth, and $5 for the fifth.
The public is invited to attend the Gala Night Reception on Friday, September 11, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., where visitors will have an opportunity to view the exhibition and celebrate the artists. Awards will be presented during the Awards Program on Saturday, September 26, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.
This special exhibition is made possible through the generous support of the Law Office of Jacob Y. Garrett, LLC. The Harlin Museum is grateful for the firm’s commitment to preserving local culture and supporting the visual arts in the Ozarks.
As America marks its 250th birthday, the Harlin Museum invites artists to help tell the nation’s story through their own unique perspectives. Whether your inspiration comes from the beauty of the Ozarks, the American spirit, or the people and places that define our country, your work can become part of this commemorative exhibition.
Questions? Contact the Harlin Museum during regular hours, Thursday through Sunday, noon to 4:00 p.m., or send us a message through our Facebook page. We’d love to hear from you!
