Civic Center pool to close this summer for improvements

Beginning on May 28, the West Plains Civic Center pool will be closed to the public for repairs and improvements, with work expected to last until mid-August.

Community Services Director Todd Shanks said the Civic Center pool closure will coincide with the opening of the outdoor pools at the West Plains Aquatic Center on Memorial Day (May 29) to ensure residents will have access to a pool this summer.

During the closure, the Civic Center pool will be sandblasted, repainted, and have pumps and valves replaced. The interior walls of the pool area and the adjoining bathrooms will also be repainted while the pool is under repair.

“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause people, but the repairs are vitally important for the safety of our swimmers,” said Shanks. “Although there’s never a great time for any lengthy repairs, the summer gives us the ability to make the necessary repairs with as little interruption to the community’s access to an aquatic center as possible.”
The Civic Center fitness room will not be affected by the pool’s closure.
