Douglas County Makes Arrest of Pair on Meth-Related Offences

Douglas County, MO. – On March 31, 2022, Douglas County Deputy Sam Evans made a traffic stop on CR 203 off North 5 Highway for failure to display current registration. Upon making contact with the driver, which was identified as Jonah Smith, age 22 of Ava, MO and the passenger was identified as Jose Ramiro Guerra, age 29, of Ava, MO. Deputy Evans observed indicators that the occupants could possibly be under the influence of a controlled substance which led to a search of the vehicle.
Deputy Evans seized a crystal substance that field tested positive for methamphetamines, used hypodermic needles, a sawed-off shotgun and a hand gun that was found in the passenger’s floorboard by Guerra’s feet. Smith was currently on probation for possession of a controlled substance. Subsequently, warrants were issued for the duo for the following criminal offenses:
Jonah Smith was charged with:
Possession of methamphetamine, a Class D Felony; Unlawful possession, transport of illegal weapon, a Class D Felony; Unlawful use of a weapon by possessing with a controlled substance, a Class E Felony; Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor; Operate a motor vehicle without financial responsibility, a Class D Misdemeanor; and Failure to register a motor vehicle, a Class B Misdemeanor. Smith’s bond was set at $25,000 cash only and if bonded must be on CPS Supervision with twice weekly drug testing, no illegal substances including marijuana, no weapons and a 7pm to 7am curfew.
Jose Ramiro Guerra was charged with:
Possession of methamphetamine, a Class D Felony; Unlawful possession, transport of illegal weapon, a Class D Felony; Unlawful use of a weapon by possessing with a controlled substance, a Class E Felony; Unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, a Class A Misdemeanor. Guerra’s bond was set at $25,000 cash only and if bonded must be on CPS Supervision with twice weekly drug testing, no illegal substances including marijuana, GPS must be placed before release, no weapons, and a 7pm to 7am curfew.
