Ava, MO. – A changing of the guard is taking place within the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office. Two faithful K9 employees of the office are retiring, and two new units are set to replace them.
The two in question going into retirement are K9 Kain and K9 Amigo. Both dogs have a substantial service record, with Kain being attributed to over 200 drug arrests, and Amigo being attributed to over 50 drug arrests, a successful track on a felon, and a successful track of a lost child.
Replacing these two distinguished service dogs are K9 Zeus and K9 York. Corporal James Nelson has been charged with the handling of Zeus, and York is in the care of Deputy Aaron Box. Both K9’s were brought in from Europe and were trained in a Jonesboro facility called Blue Streak.
K9 units have been addressed as being an integral part of recent success in locating illegal narcotics in Douglas County, and a Facebook page has recently been created to keep tabs on the activities of these new additions to the Sheriff’s Office.
