WEST PLAINS – Dr. Magdy Giurgius, MBChB, MSc, FACS, general and bariatric surgeon at Ozarks Healthcare, has been selected to serve as a member of the Missouri Chapter of the American College of Surgeons Executive Council.
The Missouri Chapter of the American College of Surgeons was founded in 1967 to promote fellowship among Missouri surgeons with the common goal of elevating the standards of surgical practice. The Chapter provides a medium to exchange information of common interest and a forum for members to influence young surgeons as they begin their careers. Focused on regional programs with national reach, the Chapter includes major emphases in the care of trauma, cancer, and general surgical patients.

Dr. Giurgius will serve on the Council for a two-year term while collaborating with other members to develop and execute new initiatives on behalf of the Chapter.
Dr. Giurgius joined Ozarks Healthcare’s General Surgery Clinic in 2015. Dr. Giurgius graduated from Faculty of Medicine, University of Alexandria, Egypt in 1995. He obtained his master’s degree in 2000, during his general surgery residency at the University of Alexandria Hospital. Dr. Giurgius practiced as a general surgeon in Kuwait for six years working in a level-one trauma hospital where he also performed advanced laparoscopic procedures. In 2006, he moved to the United States and served as a chief resident at the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky. He completed his fellowship in Minimally Invasive and Bariatric Surgery at the University of Missouri in Columbia, Missouri. In 2017, Dr. Giurgius was inducted as a fellow into the American College of Surgeons (ACS). In addition to serving as a general and bariatric surgeon at Ozarks Healthcare, Dr. Giurgius is also a part of a panel of physicians and staff who are trained to treat hard-to-heal wounds at Ozarks Healthcare Wound Care.
