Drought Conditions Sigificantly Improved Due to Late Spring Rains

The US Drought Monitor has released its latest data reflecting drought conditions across the US, and the Ozarks have witnessed a significant improvement due to recent rains.

Both Missouri and Arkansas have received major reductions in drought status, with Arkansas still dealing with the worst conditions of the two. Categories for drought conditions are scaled from D0 through D4. Until recently, the maximum level, D4, was present throughout the Arkansas listening area. According to recent data, this category has completely vanished and has, for the most part, been reduced to D2.

In Missouri, drought conditions have completely been removed from most of Texas County and half of Douglas County. As of now, the worst conditions lie in southern Oregon and Reynolds Counties, where conditions are classified as D2. With more rain being forecast within the next week, conditions are expected to further improve as we move closer toward summer, June 21st.

The most recent data is reflected in the below maps.
