The latest information from the US Drought Monitor has been updated, showing that the drought has worsened across the listening area.
In Missouri, the strongest area of concern lies in Texas County, with a D3 drought area being present. In response to worsening drought conditions, Ozark County has also now been officially placed under a burn ban.
South of the Missouri border, Fulton County is under an especially harsh drought, with a maximum of D4 category drought being present in the southeast corner of the county.
While this data does not reflect we have received last night and today, it’s hard to say just how much this welcome precipitation may actually reduce the drought.
According to the National Weather Service in Springfield, the first week of September has been the warmest start of September on record from the Springfield Climate Site.
