WEST PLAINS, MO – Katie Wilson, Amber Bowman, and Tabitha Young, all registered nurses (RNs) at Ozarks Healthcare, were recently honored with The DAISY Award® For Extraordinary Nurses. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation’s programs to recognize the super-human efforts nurses perform every day.
All three nurses were nominated for their rapid response to Ozarks Healthcare’s Women’s Center during a critical time for a patient and family. Wilson, Bowman, and Young were commended for their excellent nursing skill, strength, and compassion shown during the emergency and the comfort and consolement they provided to the patient’s family.
“These nurses go above and beyond what is expected of them to find solutions, be compassionate, and give patients their full attention,” the nomination form read. “This family and the OB Department will never forget the amount of compassion and skill these ladies always exhibit, but especially what they did that night.”
The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.
“When Patrick was critically ill, our family experienced first-hand the remarkable skill and care nurses provide patients every day and night,” Bonnie Barnes, FAAN, CEO and Co-Founder of The DAISY Foundation, said. “Yet these unsung heroes are seldom recognized for the super-human work they do. The kind of work the nurses at Ozarks Healthcare are called on to do every day epitomizes the purpose of The DAISY Award.”
“Nurses are called to provide compassion while giving of their hearts and minds in some of the most unexpected, emotional, and sometimes tragic situations,” Lacey Carter, Executive Director of Nursing, said. “These three nurses are very deserving of The DAISY Award for their demonstration of selfless, compassionate care.” For a complete listing of healthcare organizations currently running the program, please go to http://DAISYfoundation.org
