With a significant amount of rain forecasted to impact the area, Fulton County Sheriff Jake Smith is urging residents to exercise extreme caution, particularly around low water crossings. In a message relayed by Chief Deputy William Fawcett, the Sheriff’s Office emphasized the importance of preparedness and avoiding dangerous travel during periods of heavy rainfall.
“We urge the citizens of our county not to attempt low water bridge crossings until water has receded,” the message states. “If your only way off your road is through one of the low water crossings, please contact the Sheriff’s Department before venturing out. We will send an officer to check the crossing for you.”
In addition to travel safety, residents are encouraged to stock up on water and other essential supplies in advance of the approaching storms.
The Sheriff’s Office reiterated the well-known safety message: “Turn Around, Don’t Drown.” This reminder underscores the real danger of attempting to cross water-covered roadways, which can become life-threatening in a matter of moments.
