SPRINGFIELD, Mo. — High winds on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning caused headaches for municipal crews across the region.
The National Weather Service in Springfield says wind gusts got as high as 64 mph in some areas, downing trees and utility poles.
Beyond utility pole and tree damage, no major damage was reported in the region or in the local area.
West Plains officials say motorists should avoid the area of Howell Avenue and Third Street. Currently Howell Avenue is closed, and the Howell/Third Street intersection will remain closed for the foreseeable future due to the amount of damage.
Six locations in Mountain View were without power in the early morning hours, but power was quickly restored.
Officials at Howell-Oregon Electric Cooperative say roughly 800 members were without power due to the winds. That number was down to about 180 as of 9 am Wednesday morning.
