Investigation Started After Suspect Accused In Multi-Structure Fire Shot By Deputy For Showing A Gun

Phelps County, MO. – Phelps County law enforcement is investigating after a suspect was shot by a deputy for brandishing a gun.

According to the Phelps County Sheriff’s Department, they received a call about a structure fire in the southwestern part of the county around 2:20 p.m. on Saturday, September 28, 2024. The caller informed law enforcement that the suspect had set multiple structures and vehicles on fire and assaulted several people, including a juvenile.

Deputies responded and began searching the area. Around 4 p.m., they located the suspect on a Forest Service Road nearby. The Phelps County Sheriff’s Department reported that the suspect displayed a firearm, prompting a deputy to shoot him. Deputies, along with Missouri State Highway Patrol personnel, then began life-saving measures on the suspect before he was airlifted to a hospital.

The suspect remains hospitalized, and law enforcement is continuing its investigation. No further details have been released at this time.
