Kansas Woman Arrested for Fleeing in Douglas County

A Kansas woman is facing charges after an Ava police officer reported she led authorities on a pursuit through the city on June 28. According to the probable cause affidavit, Officer Johnson attempted to stop a black Chevrolet Malibu on Highway 5 after observing the vehicle following too closely and drifting between lanes. Despite emergency lights and sirens, the driver continued north on the highway, prompting the officer to notify dispatch and request assistance.

The pursuit was terminated near the Fox Trotters, where Douglas County deputies later located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. The driver, identified as Miah Nicole Batrez, was taken into custody. Batrez told the officer she did not see or hear the patrol vehicle and said she was tired and driving home. A breath test indicated no alcohol use, and dispatch was unable to confirm she held a valid driver’s license in Missouri or Kansas.

Batrez was transported to the Ava Police Department and placed on a 24‑hour hold. She is charged with resisting arrest by fleeing and operating a vehicle without a valid license.
