The West Plains Optimist Club is celebrating America’s 250th birthday with a special Duck Race Bash on July 4 at Carmical Field. The family‑friendly event runs from 1 to 3 p.m., with the duck race starting at 2.
Ducks are five dollars each, and cash prizes of $250, $150 and $100 will be awarded to the top three finishers. Participants do not need to be present to win.

Ducks can be purchased by emailing the club, messaging them on Facebook, or stopping by Senior Benefit Services or Pizza Inn in West Plains. Organizers say the event is a fun way to bring the community together for the holiday.
