Grovesprings, MO. – A man from Wright County was recently arrested after attacking and seriously injuring his neighbors.
According to the probable cause affidavit, on June 4, 2024, officers from the Mansfield Police and the Hartville Police were dispatched to a residence after getting a call about a fight in progress. While the officers were on the way, the Wright County Sheriff’s Department was informed that the fight involved multiple subjects, the use of a hatchet, and one suspect attempting to use a firearm. The officers arrived on the scene to find three people injured.
The first victim, who was pregnant, had lacerations from the hatchet on her fingers. One finger cut was almost completely through the finger and the other was to the bone. Victim Two had a laceration on the back of his head from the swing of the hatchet. The wound was deep enough the bone of the skull could be seen. The third person was beaten up and had lacerations to the back of his head.
On June 7, 2024, an investigation was started into the cause of the fight and what happened. According to the police, 41-year-old Jason Bailey was walking to his house when his neighbors offered him a ride. Bailey refused and continued to walk on. A little later on the same day, Bailey was seen walking to the same neighbor’s house with a hatchet in his hand. He then started screaming and swinging the hatchet at Victim Two. Victim Two was unable to get out of the way and received serious injuries to the back of his head. According to Victim One, he went to swing again and she tried to block the blow, which caused the hatchet to hit her fingers. Bailey continued to strike Victim One until Victim Two was able to get up. Victim Two then allegedly started to repeatedly punch Bailey in the face. He then got up and ran back across the street.
When later interviewed, Bailey denied everything, but police said that his story has continued to change every time he is asked about the events. They also stated that Bailey was visibly intoxicated during questioning and after the officers arrived on the scene of the fight. According to Missouri Case Net Court Reports Jason Bailey was placed under arrest and charged with two counts of Assault 1st Degree Or Attempt – Serious Physical Injury Or Special Victim. He is scheduled to appear in court on June 24, 2024, to discuss bond.
