Man Arrested After Choking His Girlfriend With A Seatbelt

Ava, MO. – A man was arrested after allegedly assaulting and choking his girlfriend with a seatbelt.

According to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Department, they received multiple calls on September 16, 2024, about a woman walking on the street who appeared disoriented and injured. After investigating, deputies and officers determined that the woman had been assaulted and choked with a seatbelt by her boyfriend, 38-year-old Todd Chance. The victim was transported by ambulance to Cox Health for treatment.

Chance fled the scene, but Sheriff Degase, who was familiar with him, directed deputies and officers to search for him at a family residence west of town. They located Chance at the residence, where he was taken into custody. Chance resisted arrest and was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine.

Todd Chance has been charged with 1st-degree Domestic Assault, Armed Criminal Action, Resisting Arrest, and Possession of a Controlled Substance. He is currently being held in the county jail on a cash-only bond set at $100,000.
