Missing deer hunter found Wednesday morning with help of multi-organization search in Oregon Co.

A deer hunter who failed to return to his hunting camp on the final day of the traditional firearm season was found injured a day later by emergency officials.

Osborne Elliott, 62 of St. Louis, had left his hunting camp on County Road 318, located between Thayer and Alton in Oregon County, to go deer hunting on Tuesday morning. Elliott became lost and disoriented and failed to return to his hunting camp.

After Elliott failed to return to his hunting camp, his cousin contacted the Oregon County Sheriff’s Office at about 6:00 p.m. Tuesday evening.

A search was conducted by Oregon County Sheriff’s Office Officers and K9, Missouri Department of Conservation, and local landowners and volunteers through the night and into the early morning hours of Wednesday.

A Baxter County Sheriff’s Office helicopter responded and took part in the search on Wednesday morning. The helicopter located Elliott and directed searchers to the injured man. He was transported from the ravine where he was located by UTV to an awaiting ambulance and transferred by medical helicopter to a medical facility.

Oregon County Sheriff Eric King wishes to thank everyone involved in the search, especially the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, and is reminding hunters to be prepared when going into the woods.
