West Plains, MO. – The University of Missouri Extension in West Plains will be holding a workshop to help local farmers manage feed supplies during the current drought conditions.
The workshop is titled “Strategies for Dealing with Low Forage Supply.” The workshop will be held on August 8 with registration at 2:30 p.m. and the class beginning at 3 p.m. The workshop will be held at the Howell County Extension Center located at 1376 Bill Virdon Boulevard in West Plains.
According to Sarah Kenyon, MU Extension Field Specialist in Agronomy, “MU Extension Ag Field Specialist will discuss management strategies for livestock and forage operations to utilize as they deal with low forage supply and recover from drought.” These strategies can build operation sustainability to deal with future droughts.
Specific areas that will be covered include:
- Repairing thin forage stands
- diversifying forage platform and management
- Efficient feeding of livestock nutrition
- Reducing hay waste
- Market outlook
