Earlier this month the first ever State Job Olympics were held in Columbia Missouri. This program has been developed by the University of Missouri as part of their Pre-Employee Transition Services Program.
Students who medaled at their regional event competed in events showcasing the skills they’ve learned at school. These skills are designed to help students with disabilities transition from high school into competitive, integrated employment settings. Events representing real-world job and employment situations are judged by community members, business owners, and education professionals.
Throughout the day, students competed in events such as sweeping, sorting laundry, coin recognition, stocking shelves, folding towels, vacuuming, bag stuffing, and stuffing envelopes. They also had the opportunity to practice interviewing for a job with real business leaders from the community.
Both West Plains and Thayer had strong showings as both schools brought home multiple medals.
