The Licking R‑8 School District will be closed Monday, October 26, after administrators and law enforcement began investigating a bomb threat containing specific timing that coincided with the school day. District officials announced that all buildings and grounds are closed, and only law enforcement personnel are permitted on school property until further notice. The district says updates will be provided as the investigation continues.
The Licking Police Department reports that all school buildings were thoroughly searched, both by hand and with explosive‑detection canines from the 180th Military Working Dog Detachment at Fort Leonard Wood. Officers also received assistance from the Texas County Sheriff’s Department. No suspicious items were found, and law enforcement has cleared the scene.
Police Chief Burton said the investigation remains active and that charges are being sought in connection with the threat. He thanked partner agencies and the community for their patience and cooperation as authorities work to ensure the safety of students, staff, and the school district.
