Forecasts for this evening are calling for large amounts of rain for the entirety of the listening area, with potentially severe weather being coupled with it. However, drought conditions still continue within our listening area and beyond.
The sliding scale for drought conditions comes ranges from D0 to D4 in severity. Much of our area of the Ozarks is currently within D2 drought conditions.
D2 Drought conditions indicate:
- Crops are negatively impacted; some crops are not planted; hay yield is low; farmers begin feeding cattle early
- Burn bans begin
- Reservoirs decline; rivers are very low; rivers are dredged
This is a welcome reduction from the D3 drought conditions earlier this year, and the D4 droughts that are currently going on throughout Kansas or Oklahoma. With up to 1 to 2 inches of rain forecast for tonight, this will hopefully help to deescalate our drought into a D1 category.
