Salem Man Injured Trying to Avoid Deer on Motorcycle

A Salem man was injured in a motorcycle crash just after midnight Wednesday on Missouri 19, eight miles north of Eminence.

The Highway Patrol says the 49‑year‑old man was riding a 2007 Honda VT1100 northbound around 12:30 a.m. when a deer entered the roadway. He swerved to avoid the animal, ran off the left side of the road, and crashed.

Troopers report he was not wearing a safety device and suffered moderate injuries. He was taken by Mercy Ambulance to Phelps Health in Rolla.

The motorcycle sustained extensive damage and was removed by Whitaker Towing at the owner’s request. The U.S. Forest Service and Timber Fire assisted at the scene.
