Spring semester classes will be offered in two 8-week blocks

WEST PLAINS, Mo. – Students taking classes at Missouri State University-West Plains (MSU-WP) during the 2021 spring semester will see a change in the semester’s structure.

Instead of offering most classes during one 16-week session, most classes will be divided between two eight-week block sessions.

The change to the 2021 spring academic calendar was approved by members of the Missouri State University Board of Governors’ Executive Committee at their meeting Sept. 16.

The first eight-week session will run from Monday, Jan. 11, through Thursday, March 4, and the second eight-week session will run from Monday, March 15, through Thursday, May 13.

Spring break will be March 8-12.

MSU-WP Interim Chancellor Dennis Lancaster said the change was requested because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“There is still the possibility that COVID-19 cases could spike during the spring semester, prompting us to once again move our courses online,” he said.

“If that should occur, this change would allow students to focus on just two or three classes for a short period of time instead of four or more classes over a 16-week period,” he explained.

The 2021 spring schedule of courses will reflect this change when released in October.
