A Springfield man is facing charges after troopers say he fled from a traffic stop and later crashed on a county road in Shannon County Sunday afternoon.
According to a probable cause statement, a trooper clocked a silver car at 87 miles per hour on U.S. 60 and attempted a stop. The driver turned onto Route M and then County Road 466, where the pursuit continued at speeds up to 68 miles per hour in a rural area.
A short time later, the vehicle was found crashed in a ditch with extensive damage. Troopers say the driver, 24‑year‑old Hayden N. Lewis, told them he fled because he did not have a license.
Investigators say Lewis’s driving privilege is revoked, the vehicle’s registration was expired, and he could not provide proof of insurance.
Lewis is charged with resisting arrest by fleeing and driving while revoked. His bond is set at $5,000.
