A Thayer man is facing a felony drug charge after police say he was found with cocaine at a convenience store early Monday morning. According to a probable cause statement, officers were called to the store on Preacher Roe Boulevard around 4:37 a.m. for a man who had been sitting in front of a gas pump for about an hour.
When officers contacted Keegan Burgess, he stepped out of his vehicle and a brass container fell to the ground, along with several small baggies containing a white powder and residue. The substance later tested positive for cocaine. Police say Burgess had one bag containing 0.9 grams of powder, five bags with residue totaling 2 grams, a digital scale, 20 empty baggies, and $55 in cash.
During a post‑Miranda interview, Burgess admitted possessing the cocaine and said he had been trying to sell it at a music festival. He was charged with delivery of a controlled substance, and his bond was set at $25,000.
