Eminence, MO. – The popular Cross Country Trail Ride in Eminence had to evacuate on Sunday evening due to severe flooding.
The Shannon County Emergency Management requested help on Sunday from the Missouri State Highway Patrol to help rescue individuals stuck on an island due to flooding. The Jacks Fork and Current Rivers overflowed on Sunday night causing the Trail Ride campsite to be flooded.
The Missouri State Highway Patrol stated that 30 trail riders were stuck on a small island surrounded by water that was too deep for them to cross. Marine officers transported all 30 individuals off the island.
The Shannon County Emergency Management opened a shelter for all trail riders after the evacuation. The Cross Country Trail Ride posted that their 60th Annual Summer Fun Trail Ride started that Sunday and was scheduled to go through Saturday.
The CCTR recently posted the following on their Facebook page.
“Campground is back open and all facilities are up and running (restaurant, dining hall, etc.) There will be no organized rides today but planning to have evening activities at this time. We want to express our appreciation for the cooperation and patience of our guests during a very scary night. The water has receded back to the gravel bars and the campground is back open for those who would like to come back in. The forecast is sunshine for the rest of the week! We’re very thankful there was no loss of life! There were numerous people who helped us out during a stressful and scary situation and we are eternally grateful to the first responders, Eminence Volunteer Fire Department, National Park Service, Missouri Highway Patrolmen, Missouri Department of Conservation agents, the businesses and citizens of Eminence, our amazing staff, and the members of our family who were dedicated to getting everyone out safely into the wee hours of the morning and are back this morning to get things going for the rest of the week! There were also numerous guests who came back to help as well and we feel very blessed this morning that a bad situation was tolerated as well as can be expected!”
