A West Plains man is facing criminal charges after police say they uncovered multiple videos of women being secretly recorded inside local businesses.
According to a probable cause statement filed in Howell County Circuit Court, West Plains Police Officer Brent Keepes responded to Walmart where a witness advised officers that she had observed David Brawley place his cellular phone underneath a juvenile female’s skirt. The juvenile victim was 12 years old and advised that she did not know Brawley. The victim’s mother advised that the victim had been shopping in an aisle by herself when the witness approached her and reported that Brawley had placed his phone underneath her skirt.
Officers reviewed Walmart surveillance footage but were unable to clearly see the incident due to camera angles. However, Officer Vernon later examined the suspect’s cellphone—after receiving his consent—and located multiple videos. “Officers… observed videos of approximately fifteen females who appeared to be unaware they were being recorded,” the document reads, noting that the suspect zoomed in on the women’s buttocks and moved his phone beneath their skirts.
Investigators also found additional videos recorded the same day at McDonald’s in West Plains showing similar behavior. Police say the recordings depict women who did not know they were being filmed. Brawley is charged with Felony Invasion of Privacy.
He has posted a $25,000 bond and is scheduled to appear in court on September 14th.
