Baxter County, AR. – A woman was arrested on August 27, 2024, after she claimed she was God and attempted to start a fire in a cemetery to “channel spirits”. 31-year-old Elizabeth Chandler was charged with possession of a controlled substance, disorderly conduct, resisting arrest, drinking in public, and two counts of obstructing governmental operations.
According to the probable cause affidavit, two Baxter County Sheriff’s Department deputies responded to a welfare check on a female lying on the property of Lower Oakland Cemetery. When they arrived, they noted that there was a female sitting slumped next to a tree that was lined with food, an open beer container, a marijuana container, and other belongings. She reportedly told the deputies that she was attempting to start a fire to “channel the spirits”.
When asked for her information, the woman would only reply that her name was Liz and she didn’t break any laws. She was told that she was drinking in public, which she argued, saying it wasn’t illegal.
When deputies tried to put her under arrest, she told them that she wasn’t being arrested because she was God. She then started to fight the deputy, who took her to the ground. She was then reportedly tased after refusing to cooperate and fighting with the deputies.
Once at the Baxter County Detention Center, the female revealed her name to Elizabeth Siezchula. When deputies checked court records, they found her real name was Elizabeth Chandler. She is now being held on a bond set at $2,285.
