2 dead in plane crash near suburban Kansas City airport

OLATHE, Kan. (AP) — Two people died Tuesday afternoon when a small plane crashed at a suburban Kansas City airport, the Kansas Highway Patrol reported.

Overland Park and Olathe emergency personnel were called to the Johnson County Executive Airport Tuesday afternoon.

The plane was on fire when officers arrived at the airport near Olathe, KSHB-TV reported.

Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Tony Molinaro said a single-engine Mooney M20S crashed “under unknown circumstances” shortly after departing from the airport.

No further information was immediately available.
