Arthur William Moore, age 80, of Mountain Grove, MO passed away on May 29, 2024. Art was born on September 26, 1943, in Santa Barbara, CA to Joesph Regino Moore and Adah Susan (Langlois) Moore.
Art grew up in Santa Barbara. He was a Navy veteran. He was a Merchant Seaman and a Ship’s Bosun. He loved marlinspike seamanship and gifted monkeyfists to everyone he met. Art sailed to every continent, including Antarctica. He sailed for the Military Sealift Command, Scripps Institute, Union of the Pacific, and Seafarers International Union.
Art will be remembered as a fun guy who loved to tell great sea stories.
Art is survived by his wife, Lydia Moore of Mountain Grove, MO; daughter, April McPherson of Caldwell, ID; granddaughter, Emily McPherson of Caldwell, ID; and sisters, Stella Scruggs of Caldwell, ID and Carrie Berquist of Los Olivos, CA. He is preceded in death by his parents and sisters, Gloria Shoop and Adah Regina Shoop.
Per Art’s wishes, he was cremated, and private services were held.
