Bernard Louis Holstine, 76 years, 3 months, and 18 days old, passed away on, December 1, 2023, in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. Bernard was born August 13, 1947 in Chicago, IL to William Charles and Mary Caroline (Modaff) Holstine, a grandson of Howard and Alice Holstine.
Bernard was raised in Illinois. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served during the Vietnam War from 1967 to 1970. On January 2, 1971 Bernard and Susan Ann Casner were united in marriage at Plano, IL and together were blessed with two sons, Jason Lee and Jacob Lance. He retired, after many years, from being a heavy equipment operator from the ALCOA Coal Mine in Rockdale, Texas.
He was a Christian. Bernie was a member of the VFW out of Sandwich, IL and also a member of the Douglas County Veterans Memorial Association. In addition, Bernie held membership with the Combat Vets Motorcycle Group. His joy was being with his family. He enjoyed woodworking, watching NFL football, loved riding his tractor, and taking trike (three-wheeler) rides with his family.
Bernard was preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Bob, John and Pat; his sisters, Barbara and Patsy; and his son, Jacob.
He is survived by his wife, Susan Holstine; son and wife, Jason and La Donna Holstine; four grandchildren, Mckenzie Holstine, Haley Barker, Justin Hubacek and Magen Parsley; three great grandchildren, Isabella, Ayden and Kace and one-on-the-way; his siblings, Bill Holstine, Howie Holstine, Larry Stage, Mary Moore and Bonnie Reeves, Aunt Babe, Aunt Ruth; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
Cremation services for Bernard are being conducted by Clinkingbeard Funeral Home, Ava, MO. The family will have a private celebration of life at a later date and time. Family requests memorials may be made to the Disabled Veterans Association.
