Throughout her life, Bertha faithfully served the Lord through her words, actions, and unwavering love for others. She believed deeply in the words of Jesus, “Let the little children come to me,” and dedicated much of her life to encouraging and guiding children toward a relationship with Christ. She made it her mission to ensure that the love of Jesus was known by all, especially the youngest among us.

She loved sharing stories of her life, recalling summer afternoons spent at Avon Lake, time spent with her brother and sisters, helping on the family farm, playing basketball, working at the phone company, and the food stand they ran at the Iowa State Fair. These experiences shaped her strong work ethic, deep appreciation for family, and gift for connecting with others. Writing was her true passion, and she found joy in putting memories, poems, and stories into words that inspired and touched those around her.

Bert had a smile that could brighten any room she entered. She always found a reason to laugh, share a smile, or bring joy to those around her. Her sense of humor was one of her greatest gifts, and she delighted in making others laugh. She was known for her quick wit, warm heart, and the happiness she spread wherever she went. She was a true patriot who was passionate about her beliefs and proudly supported and admired our President.

Her faith was not only something she professed but lived daily. She was a source of wisdom, compassion, encouragement, and steadfast love to her family, friends, and countless others whose lives were touched by her gentle spirit and unwavering devotion to God.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry; parents, Earl and Ruby; three sisters, Nin, Dora Mae, and Blondie; and her only brother, Logan. Along with one beloved child, Julie, and one cherished grandson, Ryan.

She was so proud of the family she created and leaves behind many who will continue to carry forward her legacy of love and faith, five children, Jerry (Melody), Laura (Steve), Joe (Linda), Tammy (Dave), and Jim.  As well as eleven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren. Along with her sister and best friend, Cindy; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family members, and many friends and neighbors. Her family was her earthly treasure, and she poured into each generation the values of faith, love, perseverance, service, and grace.

While her family mourns her absence, they rejoice in the assurance that she has entered the presence of her Savior, whom she served faithfully throughout her life, hearing the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” — Matthew 25:23. Her greatest hope was to see others in Heaven, and her life stands as a testimony to that enduring mission. Her laughter, bright smile, unwavering faith, and loving example will be deeply missed but never forgotten. Her memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved her.
