Daniel “Danny” Harrison Letsinger

Daniel Harrison Letsinger, 88 years, 2 months, and 29 days old, passed peacefully to Heaven on, October 2, 2024, at his home, with family by his side.

Danny was born July 4, 1936, in Macomb, Missouri, to George and Etta Lee (Collett) Letsinger.

He grew up on their family farm and graduated from Ava High School in 1954. On July 5,1955, Danny and Charlene Graham were united in marriage in Ava, Missouri, and together were blessed with three daughters. Danny also enlisted into the U.S. Marines in 1954 and served honorably.  He was stationed in St. Louis and Florida, and then they moved to El Toro Marine Base in Costa Mesa, California. He was honorably discharged as a Sergeant in 1962.

Danny worked for several years as a General Contractor in construction in Capistrano Beach, California . There is where they raised their three daughters. Danny also became an ordained Southern Baptist Minister. He pastored the church and helped build the Capistrano Valley Baptist Church in San Juan Capistrano, California. After retirement, he and Charlene returned home to Douglas County, Missouri. They enjoyed living in the country and caring for their farm and cattle. Danny and Charlene were active members  of  the First Southern Baptist Church in Ava, Missouri. He served as a deacon and a Sunday School teacher.  Along with his service in the church, he was very involved in Ava Victory Academy for several years.

He was a member of the Troy Herd American Legion Post 112 in Ava and served as their Legion Commander for many years.    

He was very active in the community and served in other various organizations. He enjoyed people and they did him. The Lord gifted Danny in reaching out to people. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Norma Streitmatter and Helen Stamper; and a brother, Robert Letsinger.   

Danny is survived by his wife, Charlene; three daughters and their spouses, Denise and Carlton Heiner, Sherri Andersen and Jim, and Terri and Mark Tackaberry; numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren; one brother, Dewey Lynn Letsinger; special caregivers, Carmen & Mike Engelhardt; Charlene’s family; other extended family and many friends.          

Funeral services for Danny will be Wednesday, October 9, 2024 at 2:00 P.M. in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, Missouri, with burial following in the Ava Cemetery with full military honors by the Troy Herd American Legion Post #112 and U.S. Marines. Visitation will be prior to the service at 1:00 P.M.  Officiating will be Pastor Rick Spacek.  Family requests memorials may be made to Troy Herd American Legion Post #112, P.O. Box 236, Ava, MO 65608.
