Elmer Leo Adams

Elmer Leo Adams was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas on July 9, 1939, the son of Mossie Alexander and Neola Mae Cardwell Adams and departed this life on November 24, 2020 in Mountain Home, Arkansas at the age of 81.

He was united in marriage on July 14, 1961 to Gracie Fern Howell in Koshkonong, Missouri.

He is survived by his daughter, Carolyn Lowery and husband Tommy of Thayer, Missouri; his son, David Adams and wife Sadie of Thayer, Missouri; five grandchildren, Landon,  La Crysta, Gregory, Becky and Dustin, all of Thayer, Missouri; two brothers, Homer (Ginger) Adams of Dalton, Arkansas and Clifford (Helen) Adams of Ravenden Springs, Arkansas; three sisters, Bernadine (Leon) Guntharp of Pocahontas, Arkansas, Erma (Barry) Burr of Cary, North Carolina, and Dorothy (Mackie) McReynolds of Dalton, Arkansas; nieces and nephews; brothers and sisters-in-law; cousins; other relatives; and many friends.

Elmer was preceded in death by his parents; wife; daughter-in-law La Jena Adams; and niece Rachel Adams Ellington.

He faithfully attended the Midway Pentecostal Church in Thayer, Missouri for many years and served as the Sunday School Superintendent for a time.

Elmer was a veteran having served in the United States Army.

He owned and operated a farm in the Thayer area, raising and selling pigs for more than 20 years.  He was employed by Brazeal Sawmill for 25 years before working at the Thayer School as a bus mechanic, bus driver and grounds keeper for 14 years.

One of his greatest pleasures was being outdoors working the land, whether that was being on a tractor in a hay field or on a John Deere Lawn Mower.

Elmer was proud to be called PawPaw, a title given to him by his first grandchild, Landon, with whom he enjoyed spending time.  He also liked spending time with his family and visiting with them.

He will truly be missed by his family and all who knew him.

Funeral services for Elmer Leo Adams will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at the Carter Funeral Home Chapel in Thayer, Missouri with Brother Anthony Woods officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to service time on Saturday, November 28, 2020 at Carter Funeral Home in Thayer, Missouri.

Burial will be  on Saturday, November 28, 2020 in Thayer Cemetery in Thayer, Missouri with services under the direction of Carter Funeral Home, Inc. in Thayer, Missouri.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the White Cemetery in Dalton, Arkansas or the Gideons.
