Freddy “Fred” Dean Hicks

Freddy Dean Hicks,77 years, 1 month, 7 days old, passed away peacefully on  November 17, 2024 at his home with his family by his side.

Fred was born October 10, 1947 in  Douglas County, MO to Grace Lorraine Hicks. Fred was raised by Ross and Grace Hicks Irby.

 

He attended Ava High School and immediately enlisted with the U.S. Navy. He served in Vietnam, six years and four tours in Vietnam. After his service he was a Welder by trade but could do anything he set his mind to do. 

 

On December 23, 1990 Fred and Julia “Chris” Howard  were united in marriage at Ava, MO. She preceded him in death in 2020. 

 

He and Chris enjoyed being together and working hard. He loved being with his family. Fred was a Christian and attended the Girdner Church. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Grace and Ross Irby; his wife, Chris; two sisters, Janice and Patsy; three brothers, Richard Dale, Gary Wayne and Raymond Irby; his nephew, Kendall Clouse; and his brother in law, Steve Willis.  

 

Fred is survived by his siblings, Carolyn and Darrell Hutchison, Yvonne Willis, Debbie and Kenny Clouse, and Brenda and Jim Liniger; his children, David Stone, Kurt Hicks, and Donnie Hicks; two stepchildren, Ronnie Trent and Rhonda Trent; grandchildren; great grandchildren; many nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. 

          

Funeral services for Fred will be Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024 at 11:00 A.M.  in the Clinkingbeard Chapel, Ava, MO with burial following in the Girdner Cemetery. Visitation will be prior to the service Wednesday at 10:30 A.M.    Officiating will be Rev. Maxine Lund. Family requests memorials to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
