Glenda was born July 22, 1945, to Archie and Jewell Shelton Grogan in Grogan (now Elk Creek), Missouri. She passed away peacefully at her home on Monday, November 18, 2024, in Lebanon, Missouri at the age of 79.
Glenda was preceded in death by her husband, Rubey Atkisson; parents, Archie and Jewell Grogan; sister, Freda Westman; brother, Dallas Grogan; Brothers in law, Jerry Rennick and Dean Ostlund; and grand-niece, Chandi Hoeppner.
Glenda is survived by sisters; Lois Ostlund, Caroline Grogan of Lebanon, MO; Linda Rennick (her twin) of Rolla; and Betty (Terry) French of Western Grove, Arkansas. She is also survived by thirteen nieces and nephews; Archie, Beth (Jeff), Elissa (Kevin), Samuel, Silas, and Allexis of Missouri; Richard (Elizabeth), and Teela (Jeremy) of Arkansas, Jimm (Julia) of California, Darra (Dave) of Colorado, Sherry (Gabe) of Pennsylvania, and Linda (Robert) of Alberta, Canada.
Glenda was born on the same property as her father and all her siblings. She attended Grogan Grade School until it consolidated to Cabool Elementary in 1958, where she finished her junior high years. She married Rubey Atkisson of Houston, Missouri. Glenda lived in Willow Springs, Union, and Houston before moving to Niangua and then Lebanon. But her favorite place was Houston which she always called home.
Glenda enjoyed quilting, embroidery work, reading, and raising rabbits and chickens. She loved dogs, especially chihuahuas. She loved the holidays- especially Christmas and birthdays of family members. She remembered the dates of family member’s birthdays, and even reminded her sisters of upcoming birthdays. Glenda was proud to be a twin and insisted on celebrating her birthday with her twin sister, Linda. Glenda will be greatly missed.
A visitation for Glenda will be held on Friday, November 22, 2024, from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM with a funeral service beginning at 12:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Near Home Cemetery. Online condolences may be left at evansfh.com.
