Leila Fern Carter

Leila Hart Carter was born in the Ozark Community, near Houston, MO on April 29, 1932, the only child of Leon and Maud (West) Hart.

She attended grade school until 8th grade at Ozark School, a real one room school. In her 8th year, her family moved to Houston, MO where she attended high school graduating with the class of 1950.

Leila married Floyd Sullivan in 1952. They had two children, Connie and Mike. Leila married Vearn Carter in 2012, he passed away in 2017.

Leila worked as a telephone operator in her early years and then at Kabul Nursing Home for 34 years. She was saved and baptized at age 13. She attended church at Faith Fellowship. Leila volunteered at the Houston Senior Center for many years and was also a hospice volunteer. Leila’s hobbies included reading, writing poetry, traveling when she was able, and crossword puzzles.

Leila is preceded in death by her parents; and husband, Vearn Carter. She is survived by her children, Connie (Bob), Mike (Debbie); grandchildren Miki (Ozan), and Chrissi (Tyler); and one great grandson, Jayden.

Per Leila’s wishes she was cremated. A memorial visitation was held on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, from 2:00 PM-3:00 PM. A memorial visitation followed at 3:00 PM with Pastor Bill Villapiano officiating. Arrangements entrusted to Evans Funeral Home. Online condolences may be left at www.evansfh.com.
