Lorine Mary Ola Hanks

Lorine Mary Ola Hanks, 88-year-old resident of Grandin, MO, departed this life Sunday, April 20, 2025, at her home surrounded by her family. She was born March 1, 1937, in Imboden, AR, to the late Bud Franklin Upchurch, Sr. and the late Lena Pearl (Petero) Upchurch.

A devoted homemaker, Lorine poured her heart into caring for her husband and children, nurturing them with warmth and cooking delicious meals that she lovingly prepared. Deeply rooted in the Pentecostal faith, Lorine lived her life as a reflection of her love for the Lord, raising her family in the church and enriching her spiritual life through music, often lifting her voice in song, playing the organ, or playing the accordion.  In quieter moments, Lorine also enjoyed crocheting, working on puzzles, or tending to her garden.

 

On February 19, 1955, Lorine married Thelbert Delbert Darrell Hanks in St. Louis, MO. Delbert preceded her in death on April 30, 2015. She was also preceded by a daughter, Pamela Powers; two sons-in-law, Joe Powers and Leonard Drwenski; a daughter-in-law, Jennifer Thornton; sisters, Juanita McKenzie and Viola Upchurch; and two brothers, Andrew Upchurch and Leslie Upchurch.

 

Surviving is her son, Darrell (Susan) Hanks of Grandin, MO; four daughters. Brenda (Jeromy) Moore of Richland, MO, Debbie (Jeff) Welsh of Poplar Bluff, MO, Karen (Kevin) Pennington, also of Poplar Bluff, and Kimberly (Dan) Richmond of Waynesville, MO; two sisters, Cathy Heverns of Festus, MO and Pearl McCarty of Birch Tree, MO; and a brother, Bud (Betty) Upchurch of Sedgwick, AR. Also surviving are 19 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren, and six great-great-grandchildren.

 

Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, beginning at noon with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 p.m. Brother James Gore will be officiating, and burial will be in Good Hope Cemetery.
