Survivors include her sons, Jeff (Carol) Wood of Grain Valley, MO, Kenny (Norma) Wood of Mountain View, MO, Tommy Wood of Fort Myers, FL, and Dwayne (Theresa) Wood of Cabool, MO; her grandchildren, Alex and Reese Wood, Bryan Chambers, James Chambers, Kodi Wood, Zachary, Andrew, Benjamin, and Lucy Wood; sisters-in-law, Sharon Wood, and Carol Orchard; brothers-in-law, Earl Wood, Merrill Wood and Richard Wood; and multiple nieces and nephews and extended family.

DeeDee lived in St. Louis, Missouri her whole life until she moved with her husband Leon and their four sons to West Plains, Missouri where the family started to embrace small-town farm life, even having a barnyard with a horse, a cow, pigs, ducks, and chickens. They decided to move closer to family in Mountain View a couple of years later where Leon went to work on his brother’s farm and DeeDee started working at Mountain View Fabricating. She was one of the original employees hired after the facility was opened. DeeDee enjoyed working at Fab, as it was called, and made many life-long friends through her work there. She eventually retired from Mountain View Fabricating after more than 20 years of service.

After her husband Leon passed away in 2000, she was married briefly to Bill Schramm until his passing. DeeDee was fortunate to have close relationships with her many nieces and nephews. She talked to them as often as she could.

DeeDee struggled with multiple sclerosis later in life and eventually moved to the Mountain View Nursing Home. She knew most residents and staff and even had relatives who worked there. She enjoyed the activities there and her family knew not to call around 2 p.m. because that was bingo time. She always used her activity bucks to pick out stuffed animals and gifts for her grandchildren. DeeDee doted on her grandkids and kept up with their activities and milestones.

Toward the end of her life, DeeDee’s MS caused her tremendous pain and suffering. She battled that every day but was still happy to go to activities and visit with family members. We know that her death, while very sad, means she has been relieved of her pain and that is comforting to know.
