Marvin Bell

Marvin Dole Bell, son of the late Elza and Julie (Bradshaw) Bell, was born May 2, 1934, in Bertha, Missouri. He passed away September 16, 2024, in Mountain Grove, Missouri, at the age of 90.

Marvin attended grade school at Bertha. He later worked at a sawmill in the Gentryville area. Marvin was united in marriage to Shirley Byerlee on June 19, 1954. Three children were born to this union: Deborah, Danny, and Terry. Later in life, their granddaughter, Holly, came to live with them and was adopted.

Marvin and Shirley moved to Mountain Grove and bought a farm north of the city. They lived there for 59 years. During this time, Marvin worked on his farm raising cattle. He was also employed by the Brown Shoe Company for over 35 years. He retired from the factory following a farming accident. When not working, you could find Marvin hunting or fishing. He enjoyed coon and turkey hunting and would spend hours running coyotes with his hounds. He loved his dogs and especially his favorite companion, Sally, who traveled with him wherever he would go.

Besides his parents, Marvin was preceded in death by three brothers, Johnny, L.Z., and Dale; and two sisters, Vina Buckbee and Reba Driscoll.

Marvin is survived by his loving wife of over 70 years, Shirley Bell; children, Deborah (Ken) Schuster of Quincy, Illinois, Danny Bell of Mountain Grove, Missouri, and Terry (Christi) Bell of Conway, Arkansas; three grandchildren, Holly (Tim) Nipper, Taylor Cunningham, and Jordan Bell; two great-grandchildren, Lynnley and Luke Cunningham; one sister, Judy Douthit; one brother, Paul (Virginia) Bell; one sister-in-law, Corrine Bell; several nieces and nephews; and many friends who will miss him very much.
