Mary Peterson

Mary Lou (Green) Peterson, daughter of the late Louis Burnet and Violet Marie (Brockmier) Green, was born December 2, 1932, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, and passed away September 5, 2022, at her home in Mountain Grove, Missouri. She was 89 years, 9 months, and 3 days of age.

Mary was saved and baptized during her teenage years. She graduated from Mountain Grove High School with the class of 1951. Mary was united in marriage to James Madison Peterson on August 11, 1951. Seven sons and two daughters were born to this union.

When James started his own construction and lumber business on the north side of Mountain Grove, Mary worked as bookkeeper of the business. She also helped on the family farm.

Mary worked in missions making seven missionary trips to Ethiopia. She also worked with the Navajo tribe in Cuba, New Mexico, and the Word of Life in Florida.

Mary’s hobbies included quilting, painting, and creating stained glass pieces. She also liked collecting oil lamps and collie dog figurines.

Besides her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her husband James, an infant son, David Richard Peterson, and a grandson, Justin David Peterson, an aunt and uncle, Faye and Vivian Montgomery, and her grandmother, Anna Davis Green.

She is survived by six sons, David Peterson and wife, Connie, of Spring Hill, Kansas, Steven Peterson and wife, Sandy, Phillip Peterson and wife, Regina, Paul Peterson and wife, Laura, Timmy Peterson and wife, LaRae, all of Mountain Grove, and Michael Peterson of Lake St. Louis, Missouri, two daughters, Karen Kelly and husband, Reggie, of Norwood, Missouri, and Martha Driskell and husband, Russell, of Mountain Grove, 45 grandchildren, 52 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, her dog and companion, Molly, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her very much.
