Mona Fay Thomas, 82-year-old resident of Oxly, MO, departed this life Monday, March 10, 2025. She was born September 27, 1942, in Oxly, MO, to the late Wilbur John and Troy Luree (Dabbs) Ormsby.
Mona dedicated many years of her life to caring for others. She retired from work at the Colonial Home where her warmth, kindness, and compassion were felt by all who knew her. She was loved by her clients, whose lives she touched with her gentle and nurturing personality. Mona’s true joy in life came from time spent with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She adored watching them grow, play, and enjoy life, often preparing their favorite meals, ranging from perfect crispy bacon to delicious fried chicken and gravy. Time spent with her family was always the highlight of her day and her greatest gift.
In addition to her love for her family, Mona loved playing the piano, being outdoors, spending time mowing the lawn and going over “On the Hill”, her cherished family property. Mona was a skilled jigsaw puzzle worker, often spending hours working on intricate puzzles and would sometimes preserve her favorite and more challenging puzzles. Mona found it important to stay informed and made it a point to keep up with the news. Mona still found time to play Candy Crush, quickly advancing to a high level of 7,211 and bragging to everyone about it.
On January 11, 1985, Mona (affectionately referred to by Don as Toad) married Donald “Don” Thomas in Doniphan, MO. Mona and Don spent 28 wonderful years cherishing each other through life’s many challenges and all the great adventures along the way. Don preceded her in death on May 12, 2013.
Surviving are her children, Angela Anderson (Don), Terry Kelley (Phillip), and Scott Hudson (Melissa), as well as two dear granddaughters, Rashelle Burns (Christopher) and Kelsey Barton (Matthew), who she and Don raised as their own. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Rickie (Donald), Tascha (Zech), Amanda (Arthur), Ashlyn, Bailei, Brittnei, and Richelle: and great-grandchildren, Logan, Lillyan, Zaden, Carter, Aubrey, Trysten, Shawn, Jaime, Jason, and Scarlett.
Visitation will be held in the Edwards Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, March 13, 2025, beginning at noon. A graveside service will follow at 2:30 p.m. at Center Hill Cemetery with Pastor Danny Miller officiating.
Serving as pallbearers are Scott Hudson, Logan Maples, honorary pallbearer-Zaden Burns, Chris Burns, Matthew Barton, Don Tubb, and Donald Black.
