Raymond McGownd

Raymond McGownd, son of the late Lake and Villa McGownd, was born January 27, 1934, in Bendavis, Missouri, and departed this life to be with his Savior on August 1, 2022. He was 88 years, 6 months, and 5 days of age.

Raymond was a devout member of the First Christian Church of Mountain Grove. He served as Elder and Deacon as well as being a member on the church board for many years.

Raymond served four years in the United States Air Force. He had several jobs in the Mountain Grove area throughout his life and was known to have said, “I feel sorry for you suckers that had to stick to one job.” Raymond had several things that he enjoyed doing in his free time but he really enjoyed watching his sons’ baseball teams compete and loved to go fishing with his grandsons.

Raymond was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Teresa, a brother, and sister-in-law, Lenord and Shirley McGownd, and a brother-in-law, Louis Gomez.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Gladys McGownd of their home, two sons, Derwin and his wife, Bonnie, of Reeds Spring, Missouri, and Brian and his wife, Vickie, of O’Fallon, Missouri, five grandchildren, Tim McGownd and his girlfriend, Krysten Weatherman, Kayla Rider and her husband, Dave, Kelsey Batten and her husband, Danny, Cori Grass and her husband, Daniel, and Sam McGownd and his wife, Kitty, three great-grandchildren, Maisy and Lincoln Rider and Nora Batten, and many friends, relatives, and church family who will miss him greatly.
