Robert Gene Tankersley, 83, of Franklin and Jonesboro, Arkansas passed away September 9, 2024 at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice House in Jonesboro. He was born September 26, 1940 in Blytheville, Arkansas to James Isaac and Irene Kiefer Tankersley, both who preceded him in death as did two brothers, Charles and James.
Robert was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force. As a devoted Christian man who loved his family, Robert served as a deacon in the Baptist church, where he often led the music. He was also an active member of Kiwanis, Lions, and Optimist clubs and a volunteer fireman for the Sidney Fire Dept. He served on the Violet Hill and later Izard County Consolidated school boards. He worked as a farmer who especially enjoyed training and riding horses. He also filled several positions in the banking industry.
Survivors include his wife, Kaye of the home; daughter, Trish Tankersley (Billy Davis) of Jonesboro; son, Robert “Tank” Tankersley of Franklin; four grandchildren: Pasha Eddards (Mike), Charolette Scott (Cassie), Chase Hutchins, and T. J. Brashers (Destiney); eight great-grandchildren: Willow, Paisley, Hadley, Brylee, Addison, Jayce, Hayden, and Damien; a sister, Donna Blevins; many other relatives and good friends.
Visitation of family and friends will begin at noon Friday, September 13, 2024 in the chapel of Tri-County Funeral Home at 1540 Hwy. 62/412 in Highland, Arkansas. The funeral service will follow at 1:30 p.m. with Melvin Lynn Morrow officiating.
Burial with full military honors will be in Roberts Cemetery near Franklin. Pallbearers will include Chase Hutchins, T. J. Brashers, Billy Davis, Nathan Sanders, Rocky Bratton, and Kerry Groves.
