Sheri Lea (Ice) Chronister, 60, of Cabool, Missouri, passed away on October 3, 2026, in Springfield, Missouri, from complications related to chronic lung autoimmune disease.
Sheri was born and raised in Cabool, where she spent most of her life surrounded by the people and community she loved. She graduated from Cabool High School in 1984, and that same year married the love of her life, Gerald Chronister.
Sheri worked in several different places throughout her life, but one of the jobs closest to her heart was working as a Head Start teacher. She loved children and loved making them laugh, especially with the silly, goofy songs she was always ready to sing with them. She had a natural way of connecting with kids, and the years she spent teaching were some of the most meaningful of her working life.
Sheri had a heart for helping people. If someone needed something, she was there. She kept up with what was happening in her community and always seemed to know what was going on. Helping others wasn’t something she made a big production about. It was simply what she did.
She was also, without question, one of the most stubborn people you could ever meet. Once Sheri made up her mind, good luck changing it. That stubborn streak was part of the woman everyone knew and loved, right alongside her strong faith, fierce loyalty, and deep love for her family. She was a great mother who loved her children fiercely and would do just about anything for the people she loved.
Sheri’s life was rooted in faith and family. She leaves behind her husband, Gerald Chronister; her children, Tiffany Newton and husband, Alex and Andrew Chronister and wife, Kimberly; her mother, Judy Ice; her sister, (Carletta) Kay Bassett Wells and husband, Major John Wells; nephews, Miles Bassett and wife, Rachel and Kade Bassett; as well as her two favorite great nieces, Maddy Mae and Betty Jane and a host of extended family and friends who loved her dearly.
She was preceded in death by her father, Carl Ice.
Sheri was an organ and tissue donor, and through that gift, a part of her will continue to live on in others. Even in her final moments, she was able to help give others more time, more memories, and more life. It was one final act of helping others, something that was so deeply a part of who she was.
Sheri will be remembered for her strong faith, her stubborn spirit, her love of family, her goofy songs, and her willingness to help anyone who needed her. She spent her life showing up for the people she loved, whether that meant teaching children, helping a neighbor, keeping up with what was happening around town, or simply being there when someone needed her.
She leaves behind a lot of people who will miss her, and an even longer list of people whose lives she touched along the way.
